Chris Collins graduated with a B.S. and an M.B.A. from of Louisiana State University, with an early career focus on government and finance. Working for two Louisiana governors and the Louisiana legislative auditor in the 1990s, he found he had a natural affinity for the legislative process. In 2000, Collins transitioned to the private sector working in the healthcare industry, managing clinical care operations until 2011. In May 2011, he returned to public service and joined Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. Four years later, Collins transferred to the Department of Transportation and Development in his current position.
Collins serves as the state’s project manager for navigation projects, including the Mississippi River ship channel deepening, Houma navigation canal deepening, and Baptiste Collette channel deepening. He represents the Louisiana Department of Transportation on AASHTO’s Council on Water Transportation, National Waterways Conference’s Legislative Policy Committee, the Louisiana Supply Chain and Transportation Council, as well as several state waterway commissions and navigation committees.
