Michael Fitzgerald

Michael Fitzgerald studied marine engineering at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. During his studies there, he sailed onboard a mixture of commercial and federal vessels. After graduating in 2011, he was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and served as a nuclear qualified Surface Warfare Officer serving onboard the USS Vicksburg (CG 69) and USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), and at the Military Sealift Command’s Operation Directorate.
After leaving active duty, Fitzgerald accepted an engineering position in the Maritime Administration’s (MarAd) Ready Reserve Force (RRF) and recently moved to MarAd’s Office of Safety. In the Office of Safety, he is coordinating with federal agencies, standards organizations, and the wider maritime industry to support safety in the American maritime industry. He has earned a master’s in engineering management and is currently working on a master’s in mechanical engineering from Catholic University of America. Additionally, he is licensed as a professional engineer in the state of Tennessee.
