Rev. Mark Nestlehutt, President and Executive Director, The Seamens Church Institute 

The Reverend Mark Nestlehutt became the 10th president and executive director of the Seamens Church Institute (SCI) in February 2020. Founded in New York City in 1834 as a mission of the Episcopal Church, SCI is the largest mariner service agency in North America and focuses on seafarer welfare and pastoral care through ship visits, counseling, transportation and hospitality through both port chaplaincy and SCI’s Ministry on the River & Gulf; mariner continuing education and professional training through its Center for Maritime Education campuses; and mariner advocacy and seafarer rights through its Center for Mariner Advocacy (formerly the Center for Seafarers Rights). Nestlehutt has more than two decades of ministry experience serving in the United States, Australia, South Africa and Greece, with 12 years spent in a maritime parish on the Chesapeake Bay. Prior to ordination, he served as a line officer in the U.S. Navy and worked in finance and banking in New Orleans, Atlanta and Baltimore. In addition, Nestlehutt is an avid one-design sailor. Nestlehutt is a trustee of The National Waterways Foundation Inc., the Life Saving Benevolent Association (LSBA) and the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA).
